Who we are
Being Better is a product of Bluemoon Innovations. We make the Being Better app, a health companion that helps you track daily health habits, understand your health reports, chat with an AI wellness companion called BeBe, and, with our Scalp Sentinel device, track your hair and scalp health over time. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights.
For questions, contact us at afrid@bluemooninnovations.com.
What we collect
Website. If you join our waitlist or place a pre-order, we collect your name, email address, and any optional details you choose to share, plus standard web analytics (pages visited, browser type, referring URL) through cookies and similar technologies. Pre-order payments are processed by our payment provider; we don't store your card details.
The app. Depending on the features you use, we collect:
- Account details: your phone number (used to sign in with a one-time code), name or nickname, date of birth, gender, height, weight, blood group, and address, as you choose to provide them.
- Health and activity data: with your permission, data read from Apple Health or Android Health Connect, such as steps, distance, calories, sleep, water intake, heart rate, blood oxygen, and weight. You can also log water, meals, sleep and mood yourself.
- Health reports: lab report PDFs or photos you upload, and the test values and summaries extracted from them.
- BeBe conversations: the messages and photos you send to BeBe, BeBe's replies, and short facts BeBe remembers about you (for example a medication or a goal) so it can give more relevant answers.
- Location: your precise location while the app is open, to show nearby clinics, calculate distance to doctors, and track your route during walk challenges. We don't collect location in the background.
- Photos: photos you choose to share with BeBe or add to logs, and the map image of a walk challenge route.
- Bookings and orders: lab test and doctor appointment details, delivery addresses, cart contents, and orders you place in the marketplace.
- Family features: if you create or join a family group, the members, invitations, goals, reminders, messages and gifts you exchange, and the health summaries you allow group members to see.
- Walk Buddy invites: if you invite a friend, the name and phone number of the one contact you choose (we never read or upload your address book), the invite's status, and, once you are paired, your daily step count and streak, which your buddy can see. We use the phone number only to send that one invite.
- Daily check-in answers: if you answer BeBe's daily check-in, whether you washed your hair that day and what you ate, with the date and whether you answered in the app or on WhatsApp.
- Gameplay data: points, levels, badges, streaks and challenge progress.
- Device data (Scalp Sentinel and compatible devices): close-up scalp and hair photos taken across several scalp regions (these do not include your face), sensor readings taken with the scan (such as light, humidity or temperature), and the AI-generated results and reports built from them. For scanning sessions run by our team as a research study, we may also collect one-time health background you choose to share, such as smoking status, medications, or diagnosed conditions affecting hair or scalp health.
The app does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and we don't use your data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- Provide the app: sign you in, sync your health data, show your scores, trends and reports.
- Power BeBe, generate daily insights and goals, and explain your health reports.
- Ask you BeBe's daily check-in, in the app and, if you have not answered by the evening, on WhatsApp (see "WhatsApp messages and opting out"), and keep your answers so you can see how your habits and your scalp change together.
- Run challenges, points, badges and rewards, including Walk Buddy, where we send the invite you ask for to your friend on WhatsApp and pay a shared bonus when you both reach your step goal.
- Book tests and appointments, and fulfil marketplace orders.
- Run scalp scans and show you your own results and how they change over time.
- Send you notifications you've enabled, and your scan reports (including over WhatsApp if you've opted in).
- Send you updates about Being Better products, if you've joined our waitlist.
- Keep the service secure and fix problems.
- Train and improve our scalp-analysis AI model, and support research we intend to publish (for example in an academic venue), always in de-identified, aggregated form where used for publication. No names, contact details, or identifying photos are published.
We will never sell your data to third parties. Ever.
Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, and only what they need to do that job:
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in, file storage and server functions, where your account data, health data, reports and photos are stored.
- Google (Gemini API) processes text and images to power BeBe chat, extract values from health reports, turn free-text logs into structured entries, generate daily goals and recommendations, and recognise the shape of a walk challenge route.
- Anthropic (Claude API) writes the narrative summaries and routine suggestions shown after a scalp scan, using scan results and, for an optional visual note, a scan photo.
- Modal runs our scalp-image analysis, so scan photos are sent to it for processing.
- Meta (WhatsApp Business Platform) delivers your sign-in code to your phone number, Walk Buddy invites to the friend you choose, BeBe's daily check-in messages, and scan reports and messages if you opt in to WhatsApp. Meta processes the phone number and message content needed to do so under its own terms.
- Payment provider for website pre-orders.
These providers process data on our instructions to deliver the service. We don't allow them to sell it. Information that you send to AI features is handled by those providers under their own data-use terms.
WhatsApp messages and opting out
We only message people who have a Being Better account. The WhatsApp messages we send are:
- Your sign-in code.
- An invite to a friend, when you ask us to send one (Walk Buddy).
- BeBe's daily check-in. If you have not answered the day's check-in in the app by the evening, BeBe may send you the same two questions on WhatsApp, at most once a day. Your reply is saved with your other check-in answers.
Reply STOP to any of these messages to stop WhatsApp messages from us. We keep your number on a list of people who said STOP so we do not message you again, and you can reply START to turn them back on. To stop notifications on your phone, turn off Reminders in the app (Profile, then Reminders). You can also delete your account at any time.
Who else can see your data
- Our internal team, for running the service, support, model development and research.
- Your Walk Buddy. Once you accept a Walk Buddy invite, your buddy can see your first name and your step count for the day, and nothing else. You can end a pairing at any time.
- Your family group. If you join a family group, members can see the group's shared goals and the health summaries the feature displays. Only join groups with people you're comfortable sharing that with, and you can leave a group at any time.
- Scanning sessions through someone else's invite. If you joined a scanning session through someone else's invite, that person may be able to see your scan history in the app. If you'd prefer they not have that visibility, tell us before you start and we'll set your account up independently instead.
- Labs and doctors, when you book an appointment, receive the details needed to deliver the service you booked.
- Authorities, where we're legally required to disclose information.
Meta Ads
We run ads on Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram). If you interact with our ads and submit a lead form, your contact information is shared with us via Meta's Lead Ads system and stored securely. Meta's own privacy policy governs how they handle data on their platform.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored with our database and file storage provider using industry-standard practices, including encryption in transit. We retain your information for as long as needed to run your account, provide the features described above, and, where relevant, develop our AI model and related research, or until you ask us to delete it. Order and payment records may be kept longer where we need them for accounting or legal reasons.
Your rights and choices
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate account information (you can also edit your profile in the app).
- Delete your account and data at any time, directly in the app under Profile, Delete account, or by following our Data Deletion Instructions.
- Withdraw from a scanning study at any time, for any reason, with no explanation needed.
- Turn off Health, location, camera, photo and notification access at any time in your device settings.
- Unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time via the link in any email we send.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at afrid@bluemooninnovations.com.
Age
The app and Scalp Sentinel scanning sessions are intended for people aged 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Cookies
Our website uses essential cookies to function and analytics cookies to understand usage. By continuing to use the site, you consent to this use. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Not medical advice
Being Better is not a medical device. BeBe, health scores, report summaries, recommendations, follicle counts and any other observations shown in the app are generated by automated systems for general wellness information. They are not a diagnosis or treatment and can be wrong. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider about any health concern, and seek emergency care if you think you're having a medical emergency.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of our site or Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
